Direction by Richard Fani
Direction = the path or course of a given
movement, or moving body; an
indication of the point towards or from which an object is moving. English Dictionary
Whilst I simply believe that direction “is a state of understanding where something
or someone is headed or coming from”.
The key is to have a
destination; even if you make a wrong turn you’ll always find your way again.

Our future is governed by the direction
that we choose to make today. It is shaped by those little choices that we make
every morning when we wake up. Who we are is temporary and what we become in
future is a result of the temporary measures we make today. A few of us have
had their path of life already written down for them to walk through but for
most of us we have to prepare our own paths, design it and make it like how we
wish it. Unless we become aware of where we want to be in the time ahead, I’m
afraid we are always going to live life haphazardly, confused and distracted by
retrogressive forces.
It is very important for each and every one
of us to live a directed journey. Having direction means we have purpose in
life. It keeps our actions in check and we remain guided towards where we are
going, and most importantly we always realize where we are coming from.
Talking
with a group of young people from Mbare, they provided various ways based from
their own experiences; which can be used to determine whether a person has
direction.
The first person talked about confidence.
He said “confidence is a powerful tool which removes self-doubt in us, it gives
people a chance to listen to whatever we have to say. Your confidence is one
way that will show you and the world that you have direction. It has got the
power to open the doors that no key can unlock”. The world has a habit of
making room for man whose actions shows that he knows what he is doing and
knows where he is going. What better way can show the world you know what you
are doing besides confidence? You need to be confident with yourself, remove self-doubt
and become who you want to be.
“Minding your own business is very
important if you ever wish to stay in line with your goals or dreams”, says
another young man from the community. Learn to appreciate the things that you
have in life. Nothing is as important as your own life. Create your own self
and be who you really want. Do not worry that the person you may become will
not be loved by everyone else, as long as you believe in what you are doing as
the right thing for you. The world will understand you better if you first
understand yourself. Focus all you have on want you want and where you want to
be.
“I believe, how you are dressed is a factor
that not only gives you confidence but it also allows people to have confidence
in you”, exclaimed one of the young girls at the discussion. Every event that
you may attend has a dress code that will be expected of you to wear. If it’s a
formal event, dress formally. If it’s a beach party, then ready your swim suit.
Dress accordingly if you so ever wish to be taken seriously. Dress in the way
that will enable your audience to pay attention to whatever you have to say.
Be time cautious. Another young man gave much
emphasis on time management saying, “The race against the clock is a race that
no man can ever win”. Always remember you will never get ahead of time but you
can always be prepared of what you should do when the time comes. Like it or
not, the time will come, be ready to do what needs to be done.
“It is far much easier for a person who has
no concentration to be dragged off course or to be dragged from the intended
direction”, says another young woman. Concentration allows us to identify
distractions. It also reminds us that we have a task to fulfill. Focus all your
strength towards your destination, never look sideways. Act like a horse on a
racecourse don’t stop till you reach the pot of gold.
